Hello parents and families and Happy Friday!!
This week we learned about our second class of animals; the mammals! This is exciting because this is the class of animals that we belong to! We learned that mammals have fur or hair, have four legs or two legs, give birth to live young, are warm blooded, and breather through lungs.
In reading groups this week, we continued to work on identifying sounds in CVC (consonant/vowel/consonant words) throughout the text, sight words, and sounding out unfamiliar words. Please make sure the kids are practicing their sight words as much as possible as this is what will help them increase their reading levels! Also make sure you are reading every night on RazKids to become more confident with reading! In math, we completed our work with addition. We will continue to review throughout the year but we will be introducing subtraction next week! Some Montessori math lessons taught this week were the hundred board and the number chart, making complex numbers, the ten board, missing number, more than/less than, and the teen board. In writing, we continued working on our "How To" writing and our Black History Month writing. We are using a graphic organizers to write the steps of how to make or do many things. Next week, we will begin to write and illustrate our own How To books! In social studies, we learned about Abraham Lincoln in honor of President's Day on Monday. On Tuesday when we return, we will be learning about George Washington and completing a project on him as well.
FIELD TRIP- The next field trip is on Friday, March 31st. We will be going to the Detroit Science Center. Field trip forms will be coming home next week. We will be riding buses on this field trip but still need chaperones. All money and forms are due by March 13th. The earlier you can send it in the better, so we can get our counts to the museum.
Talent Show:
These forms are due by February 27th. If your child would like to perform in the talent show then they will need to come to auditions on Thursday, March 2nd from 4:15-5:00 pm. They will perform in the classroom just so the teachers can time their talent and have everything ready for their performance. ALL music must be on a CD and not on a phone. We do not have the equipment to play music from a phone. If you have any questions then please email Mrs. Meagan at [email protected].
Re-Enrollment Forms:
These are due by Friday, February 24th. Please make sure these are in. Even if you are undecided we still need a form turned in for every child. We will send home forms in friday folders if we do not have one for your child already. Thank you.

Please remember that we DO go outside if the temperature (with the wind chill is 25 degrees or higher). If the kids do not have boots, coats, hats, gloves and snow pants, they are not allowed to go in the snow. The absolutely minimum they must have is a coat, hat, and gloves. In addition, if you send your child to school in boots, they MUST have a pair of shoes to change into. Please check individual classroom pages for GYM schedules as well, to make sure they are prepared with tennis shoes for gym. Another important note - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING you send to school! We are getting A LOT of items lost with NO NAMES! Thank you in advance for your help with this! :)
