Hello Families!
This has been quite a short week! On Monday, we had school off for Martin Luther King Jr. day then we had an unexpected snow/ice day on Tuesday morning. Thank you all for being so patient and understanding with the last minute call off. Many did not know how bad the roads were until we all started leaving for school. We are thankful all of our AMA family was safe that day.
This week we have worked on addition and measurement. We are just beginning with addition so we are teaching all of the students different strategies they can use to solve problems. This is going to be an ongoing subject that we practice all month. Please work on the addition homework packet each night at home so your child gets as much practice as possible. For Martin Luther King day we tried to explain what life was like during those times. The students worked on a scholastic that explained how everyone should be treated fairly and not discriminated against based upon their skin color. Measurement standards in Kindergarten works on measuring things with non standard tools. We have measured how many snowflakes tall we are, used a unit measurer on a paper, and measured feet length with plastic chain links.
Reminder that our field trip is on Wednesday, January 25th. We need all chaperones to arrive at the school by 8:45 am so we can go over things before we load the buses. The students do not need a car seat since we will be riding the buses. They also do not need a special lunch. We will be eating lunch when we get back to school around noon.
Sight Words:
this week: now, out, ride, so, they
next week: want, what, will, please, saw
