Hello parents and families and Happy Friday!!
This week we finished our unit on pumpkins! We completed our pumpkin exploration on Monday. We guessed how many seeds were in our pumpkin, and then we cut it open and took out all the pulp and the seeds! We described the pumpkin using our five senses, described the inside and the outside, and then counted the seeds! We had 410 seeds total! We also continued to work on life cycle of a pumpkin activities, finished our life cycle booklets, and other cool pumpkins projects!
During work time this week, we continued to teach new language and math lessons including word to picture, beg/middle/end sounds, counting by tens, the ten board, the teen board, missing number, more than/less than, and tabletop rods. In reading groups this week, we continued to work on concepts of print such as identifying the front and back cover, author, illustrator, spine, and remembering that we read from left to right and top to bottom. The kids are getting much better with one to one matching, reading each word with their finger. Please make sure the kids are practicing their sight words as much as possible as this is what will help them increase their reading levels! Also make sure you are reading every night on RazKids to become more confident with reading!
In writing, in addition to finishing our pumpkin book, we worked on our beginning, middle and end books. We came up with the topic and drew three pictures of things we did. Then, we put them in order of what happened at the beginning, the middle, and at the end of our story. This is something we will continue to work on for the next few weeks. Instead of just writing one sentence, we want to try and take a small moment and describe what we did in more detail. In social studies, our lesson was "I Can Get Along With Others." We talked about how important it is to get along with others. We learned that we can't always do what we want and that if we are respectful to others, they will be more respectful to us. This went along with our assembly on Tuesday, introducing our November character trait, citizenship. We talked about how to be a good citizen in the classroom and at home. At the end of November, each teacher will choose a student that exemplifies the definition of a good citizen and they we be awarded at the beginning of next month! Congratulations to our October Responsibility award winners! Great work! :)
Next week, our unit will focus on 2D shapes. We will be reviewing some basic shapes, talking about how many sides and corners they have, as well as completing some fun shape projects together! Don't forget that on Monday, we will be having our mock election and the students will be voting for president! Also, don't forget that Tuesday, the students have NO SCHOOL!
Reading Logs
Don't forget to be working on these every night and filling them in! November's reading logs are due Wednesday, November 30th.
Please remember these ARE a grade on your child's report card so it is VERY important that they get turned in on time!
Also, remember that your child gets to sign our 100 train if they reach 100 books!

Change of Clothes
Please make sure that every student has a spare change of clothes (socks too) in their backpack at all times. As we learn the procedures and get acclimated to school, accidents are bound to happen and we want to be prepared. Please make sure everything is labeled properly. If your daughter is wearing a skirt please be sure that she has a pair of shorts on underneath.
