Hello parents and families and Happy Friday!!
This week our major theme were MONEY and SEEDS and PLANTS!! We learned so much this week about both! We are still reviewing time to the hour and half hour daily, as well as fractions, but have introduced the penny, nickel, dime, and quarter; along with how many cents each of them are worth!
In reading and writing this month we are focusing on fairy tale stories. We are reading different fairy tale and using graphic organizers to show the elements of a fairy tale. We have worked on finding the characters, setting, problem and solution. Later this month we will begin to write our very own fairy tale using all of these elements.
In reading groups we are continuing to work on comprehension and re-telling. We will do our final reading A to Z assessment the last week of May. Please continue to work on sight words and reading independently nightly.
In science we are exploring seeds and plants. We examined a seed and the parts inside. We also made our own diagram of a plant and labeled it's parts and talked about the life cycle of a plant.
Next week, our themes will be flowers and Mother's Day! :) Also, please don't forget that we begin our NWEA testing next week! Check with your individual teachers to see when your dates are!!
Homework
Word Family homework - The word family for the week is the -in family. Please make sure the homework page is completed by your child and returned on Monday! Also, remember that the letters you use MUST make real words; not nonsense words so please reread the words with your child to make sure they make sense!
Reading Logs - April reading logs were due this past Monday; please make sure you get these turned in. Make sure you are working on reading logs nightly and filling them in! Please remember these ARE also a grade on your child's report card so it is VERY important that they get turned in on time! Also, remember that your child gets to sign our 100/200/300 train if they reach a new milestone of books! May will be our final reading log and it will be due on Wednesday, May 31st!
